Introducing: This Month in Charts
July 2012 brought the heat. We’ve decided to return the favor by bringing the first installment of the hottest new series on the whole internet, This Month in Charts. Brought to you by the folks at I Love Charts.
Starting Off with a Bang
July kicked off with the most explosive of holidays, especially if you happened to be attending the fireworks show in San Diego.
Shock and Awe
July also started out with a “shocking” revelation, when Anderson Cooper opened up about his sexuality (hint: he’s gay). The announcement set the stage for what was to become a month full of conversation about sexual orientation.
Eat Your Words
Not to be left out of the conversation, the CEO of Chick-Fil-A decided to add his voice, defending Chick-Fil-A’s donations to organizations that oppose same-sex marriage. The announcement pits him and his company against last month’s corporate munchies entry into the conversation, Nabisco.
We Didn’t Post This
But there were items other than sexuality being debated on the national stage this month. Per usual, much of the news cycle was devoted to reporting on the possible political implications of the small word choices, vocal slip-ups and minor blunders of politicians and those in their employ. Barack Obama had one such “gaffe” that has since become the cornerstone of Mitt Romney’s attack on the sitting president, when he muffed a pronoun and seemed to tell business owners “you didn’t build that” regarding their businesses. Like they say, pronoun usage is the window to the soul.
What’s Not to Love About CainTV?
Thankfully, not everything political involved gaffes or attack-ads. July also saw the premiere of CainTV, Herman Cain’s internet TV channel. If you have not seen the trailer, prepare to have your mind blown.
Too Hot to Hoot
Though CainTV will surely become the hottest thing on the internet this summer, the hottest thing IRL has been, well, the heat. (July was closing in on the hottest month in recorded history.) Score one for global warming scientists, who are finally getting people to pay attention to them again.
The God Particle
And another score for particle physics scientists, too. We finally found the Higgs Boson! Probably…
RIP
We lost two icons of early television this month, with the passing of legendary actor Andy Griffith, as well as Sherman Hemsley, who played George Jefferson on “The Jeffersons.” These things tend to come in threes, but we certainly hope that is not the case here.
May the Odds Be Ever in Your Favor
Finally, July is ending with a bang just like it started. The Olympic games kicked off last week, with an opening ceremony that could best be described as … Mr. Bean!
